As of 23rd March, 2020, Pakistan has 761 cases of Covid-19 and the number is rapidly increasing. As a precautionary measure, the Government of Sindh has imposed a lockdown for 2 weeks to curtail the spread of the virus. Similarly, the Punjab Government is also expected to announce a lockdown for 2 weeks soon.
The lockdown will hit the low-income families the hardest because of rising unemployment and economic slowdown. An overwhelming majority of PEN students come from low-income families in under-served communities. They are daily-wage laborers, fruit vendors and factory workers. Most of our schools are located in villages where families are most vulnerable to the pandemic and the resulting economic hardship.
PEN plans to provide basic food and hygiene items free-of-cost to the families of each student to carry them over the period of the lockdown and thereafter.
As per the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the average number of members per household is 7.
Hence, it plans to provide the following items to each family:
TITLE:Progressive Education Network
|Daal Channa||1 kg|
|Daal Moong||2 kg|
|Cooking Oil||5 Liters|
|Chilli Powder||200 Gram|
The above noted ration pack will cost around Rs. 6,000 and PEN Students amount to around 30,000 households on average. The total financial cost of the ration packs alone will be Rs. 180 Million and taking into account logistical costs our target is to raise Rs. 200 Million for this effort.
We request you to contribute generously.
